Wushu Club
Description
What is Wushu?
Wushu (Kung Fu) is one of the oldest surviving martial arts in the world, dating back thousands of years. 武 *“Wu”* = combat/martial and 術 *“Shu”* = art. Wushu’s various styles include Shaolin Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Wing Chun, and lion/dragon dancing.
While **performance-oriented**, Wushu training is rooted in applicable techniques and builds both physical and mental resilience. You will practice kicks, stances, punches, blocks, jumps, and flips that enhance your mind-to-body connection. Partner work includes stunts, sparring, and training with performance lion/dragon props.
UWOW provides an exciting and safe community to practice Wushu!
Why should you join?
Train like *Bruce Lee, Ip Man, Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Po (Kung Fu Panda)*, and many more!
Any level of experience and fitness is welcome,**no previous Wushu experience required!** Uniforms are not required either.
Beyond our weekly practices, members can look forward to performances, lion dance, workshops, socials, collaborations with other clubs, and an *end-of-year Wushu showcase!*

About the President
Hi everyone! I’m Chloe, and I’m so excited to be your Wushu Club President for the 2026–2027 year! I’m currently in my fourth year of Music Education as a piano major and have been practicing Kung Fu/Wushu for over a decade.
Outside of Wushu, I’m also a competitive lion dancer, and my team is currently a two-time Canadian national champion! I’m excited to share my love for Wushu and create a fun, welcoming community for everyone, whether you’ve been training for years or are trying martial arts for the first time.
I can’t wait to meet and train with you all this year!
Past Events
You’ve probably seen us around campus! Wushu Club performs throughout the year at Western events and celebrations, especially during Lunar New Year. From performances in the Great Hall and at Huron to other cultural and campus events, we love getting opportunities to share Wushu and Chinese culture with the Western community.
Outside of training and performing, we also like to have fun together! Past socials have included social dinners, movie nights, and other opportunities to hang out with the team outside of practice.
Keep an eye out, you might have already spotted us on Western’s social media or performing around campus!
