Triathlon Club
Description
The Western Triathlon Club is truly for folks of all athletic abilities and competitive drives. We offer 8 coached workouts throughout the week, including swimming, running, and indoor spin classes. These workouts are designed with various skill levels in mind, and typically work up to the various competitions that take place throughout the year.
Attendance is not mandatory, and members can decide which practice types and times to attend—you can fit us into your schedule as you please! Our sport of triathlon is growing, and we’d love for you to be a part of that growth.
A quote from our team:
“UWO Tri Club has become a major part of many students’ experiences at Western. It has become a solace from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and we sincerely hope it will do the same for you! Our goal is to work with our qualified coaches to create a friendly environment where members can challenge their limits and cross their first (or next) finish line!”

About the President
Maggie Chen is in her third year of university, pursuing an Honour’s Specialisation in Pathology and a Minor in Geography. Maggie started her triathlon journey as a runner in high school, completing half-marathon and marathon distances prior to university. She also biked consistently to cross-train and for leisure. Once she joined the Triathlon Club at Western University in her first year, she picked up swimming and has been involved in the triathlon scene ever since, completing an Ironman 70.3 in the summer of 2024. If there is one message Maggie wants to spread, it is that the triathlon community embraces participants of every skill level, whether they're seasoned elites or newcomers lacing up their running shoes for the first time.
Events
Seminars: Throughout the year, we invite a diverse array of guest speakers—from nutrition specialists to elite coaches to sports psychologists—who deliver presentations and share their expertise with our club members. Snacks and coffee are included!
Potluck: An end of semester potluck has become a tradition in our club to celebrate the various achievements of our members, and a chance to socialize before we hit the books for exam season.
Splash N’ Dash: Each year, we host a race composed of a 15 minute swim followed by a 15 minute run for a chance to compete against fellow triathletes from different universities and clubs.
Toronto Triathlon Festival (TTF): In July, TTF holds a national university championship where triathlon teams from universities across Canada can compete for points to win the cup!
