Triathlon Club
Description
The Western Triathlon Club is a Club for people of all athletic abilities and competitive drives. Whether you’re a seasoned triathlete or just looking for a fun way to stay active, we’ve got something for you.
We offer 8 coached workouts throughout the week, including swimming, running, and indoor spin classes. Each workout is designed with various skill levels in mind which allows members to challenge themselves, set personal goals and improve at their own pace, all within a supportive community. Attendance is flexible, and members can decide which practices and times to attend. Therefore, you can fit the Triathlon Club into your busy schedule as you please!
Throughout the year many of our Club members look forward to competing in mini triathlon races hosted by Universities across Ontario. These races act as both a great introduction to the sport of Triathlon and as a competitive opportunity for those looking for an exciting challenge. Our sport of triathlon is growing, and we’d love for you to be a part of it. For more information, contact us at triathlonclub@groups.uwo.ca or on Instagram @westerntriathlon.
About the President
Owen Gillet is a 5th year student pursuing an Honour Specialization in Accounting with a Minor in Data Analytics and Decision Sciences. Owen grew up playing hockey, baseball and golf and never imagined himself running triathlons. When Owen began university at Western, he decided to join the Triathlon Club as a fun way to stay active and fit. While initially having zero intentions of competing in any Triathlon races in the future, after the first few weeks of practices, he was drawn in by the supportive, welcoming community of the Club and quickly began to feel “at home”. In little to no time Owen was inspired, and since then he has competed in multiple Triathlon events alongside fellow UWO triathletes. Owen strives for each member of the Club to feel welcomed, supported and motivated, regardless of their experience or skill in swimming, biking or running.
Events
Seminars: Throughout the year, we invite a diverse array of guest speakers—from nutrition specialists to elite coaches to sports psychologists—who deliver presentations and share their expertise with our club members. Snacks and coffee are included!
Potluck: An end of semester potluck has become a tradition in our club to celebrate the various achievements of our members, and a chance to socialize before we hit the books for exam season.
Splash N’ Dash: Each year, we host a race composed of a 15-minute swim followed by a 15-minute run. This is an exciting opportunity for our members to compete against fellow UWO triathletes and triathletes from different universities and clubs in a high paced racing environment.
Toronto Triathlon Festival (TTF): In July, TTF holds a national university championship where triathlon teams from universities across Canada compete for points to win the cup!
