Artistic Swimming Club

Description

What is artistic swimming?

Artistic Swimming is a sport that blends the athleticism of swimming with the dynamics of gymnastics and the elegance of dance. Artistic Swimmers perform their skills to a choreographed routine in the water as a team, duet or solo which showcases their strength, flexibility and synchronization.

Why should you join the team?

Joining the team is a great way to stay active at school! Artistic Swimming builds endurance, power, speed and flexibility. It also fosters amazing leadership skills, and everlasting friendships between teammates. We aim to include athletes and artists of all genders and backgrounds to participate and contribute to the success of the club.

Non-swimming members can contribute to coaching, leading workouts, choreography, music, video, social media, event management, promotion, suiting design and even sewing. For more information about these opportunities please email us at artisticswimmingclub@groups.uwo.ca

What experience do I need?

No experience in our sport? No problem! You can swim in our novice program. Our novice practices include introductory skills, conditioning, choreographing and practicing a routine fit to your skills.

If you have competed in artistic swimming previously at the provincial level or higher after the age of 12, you can swim in our experienced program.

A little more about Western’s Artistic Swimming Club…

We train both in and out of the water as a team. Our in-water practices consist of drills, swim endurance training, choreography, and practicing our routines. We are a part of Canadian University Artistic Swimming League (CUASL) in which we compete our routines against other university teams. Members can choose to take part in 2 competitions throughout the school year: Easterns in February and Nationals in March.

Please reach out if you have any additional questions, and make sure to follow us on our socials to stay connected about practices and events!

About the President and Vice President

Hi everyone, this is Abby Young and Janet Soilis and we are so excited to be the incoming President and Vice Presiden of Western Artistic Swimming Club for the 2024-2025 academic year! We have been involved in artistic swimming for 11 and 10 years, and our love for the sport has not dissipated or waivered during this time. We hope to show everyone at Western how fun and exciting artistic swimming is, regardless of your experience, or lack thereof, with the sport! Please feel free to reach out to us or anyone else on our executive team if you have any questions about our Club, and I look forward to getting to know everyone in the fall! We can’t wait to welcome new faces into our artistic swimming community!

Planned Events and Socials

  • Synchro Info Session: Join us for a presentation about the club and programming. It's also a great way to meet the executive team and learn more about the Western Artistic Swimming Club.
  • October Social Kickoff: Start the club year with a fun way to meet your new teammates at our October social event! Club members will vote on their preferred activity, with options including bowling, axe throwing, rock climbing, trampoline park adventures, and more. It's a great way to forge new friendships and kick off the year with enthusiasm.
  • January Social: Embrace the New Year with another event in January! Like October, members will have a voice in selecting the activity, ensuring everyone can participate in an outing that suits their interests. This is a nice way to welcome those joining the club in the second semester and catch up with old teammates after the winter break!
  • London Artistic Swimming Club Winter Watershow: All members, recreational and competitive, will have the opportunity to present their routine at the Watershow. Transportation to this event will be via carpool or LTC.
  • End-of-Year Dinner: Conclude the club season on a high note with our end-of-year dinner social. This celebratory event allows members to dress up and enjoy a delightful evening together, reflecting on the year's accomplishments and creating lasting memories.

Stay tuned for more details and voting opportunities as we plan these exciting social events throughout the club year!
