WSRC/Thompson/Engineering/South Valley Parking Lot Construction - ACCESS NOTICE - CLOSED AUG 25
Western has started construction on the Utility & Tunnel Renewal project in the Alumni/Thompson parking lot.
🚧 ACCESS NOTICE FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 25:
Please be advised that the Western Road/WSRC/Engineering Upper parking lot access will be CLOSED to vehicular traffic Tuesday, August 25 while the City of London completes curb work as part of the Western Road/Philip Aziz Drive construction project.
Members driving to Campus Recreation and the Western Student Recreation Centre (WSRC) who require accessible parking during this time should plan to allow for extra travel time and can call 519-661-3090 to be let in at the lower level when arriving.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as this work is completed.
A temporary entrance and exit to the lot - off of Western Road - is now open for accessible parking ONLY. In addition, only right hand turns are permitted into and to exit the lot. Please do NOT turn left to enter or exit the lot. All Western parking rules apply: Parking Services - Parking & Visitor Services - Western University
Additional parking is available in the South Valley parking lot or Huron parking lots.
Pedestrian access will continue to be available through the construction, although the location of the pathway may shift at times.
Western University has identified that the Thompson/Alumni Parking Lot requires repairs and upgrades that will support current and future development in the area. This project will continue throughout the summer, working on underground services and the conduit tunnel below.
STAIRCASE FROM SOUTH VALLEY PARKING (CLOSEST TO WSRC) CLOSED
Western University will be closing the south staircase (beside WSRC) between the South Valley Parking Lot and the Alumni/Thompson Parking Lot from April 27 to August 28, 2026. Pedestrians will be detoured to the north staircase.
This closure is required in order to improve services to multiple campus buildings by constructing a new service corridor for campus utilities, and to allow excavation for new and temporary services required for continuous utility operations on campus.
Some exceptions may apply - where the south staircase (WSRC) may reopen and the north staircase (South Valley/Engineering Precinct stairs) may be closed - as Facilities Management has indicated that the WSRC staircase will reopen April 28-29, and the South/Valley Engineering Precinct Stairs will be closed these two days.
Facilities Management has also indicated that signage will be provided to direct to alternate routes.
