National Drowning Prevention Week 2025

Lifesaving Society Ontario recognizes National Drowning Prevention Week from July 20-26 2025. This summer's theme, #safertogether emphasizes the importance of shared responsibility when it comes to water safety. Following drowning prevention tips is not an individual precaution, it is looking out for you and your peers and family in order to reduce risk.

The Lifesaving society states that most drowning victims never intended on entering the water to begin with. This highlights the need to be prepared for any accidents that may occur regardless of if you plan on engaging in water activities or not.

Before heading into or around the water this summer make sure to plan ahead and be aware of the risks. Join us for a free Recreational Swim this week at Western Campus Recreation or sign up for swimming lessons with Western Campus Recreation - new session signup starts mid-August, participate in our colouring contest, or sign up to learn #FirstAid and CPR to keep your loved ones safer. You don’t need any previous training or knowledge to sign up for a lifesaving course: https://www.lifesavingsociety.com/find-a-course.aspx.

This July 20-26, take a moment to promote safe water practices and raise awareness across campus, in our community and beyond.
