Facilities Renewal: The Digital Creativity Lab – Opening Spring 2020

Image of photography studioIn response to increased need for digital production and presentation space, The Department of Visual Arts will be undergoing a renovation in January-March 2020 to create a new “Digital Creativity Lab”. This new flex-space will facilitate student and faculty photo, video, audio, and digital production and presentation.

Starting in mid-January, the former darkroom facilities will be relocated and condensed to rooms VAC 137A and 141.  Room 137 D & C (the former darkroom) will be renovated to create this new space. The Digital Creativity Lab will convert the former darkrooms into a professional photography/videography studio accessible via swipe access to undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty looking to make artwork or present it in this new space. This project is made possible to due to a $155,000 grant, secured through the Incremental Project Grants.

In addition, our printmaking facilities will be expanded into room 139 in order to accommodate additional silkscreen tables and a t-shirt printing press acquired through the Arts & Humanities Student Donation Fund.

Anticipated Service Interruptions

Construction is set to occur from January 13 – March 30, 2020 and should not impact any regularly scheduled classes. Courses which may be disrupted by any noise in adjacent rooms, have been relocated to accommodate for this renovation.

Printmaking Darkroom access will be temporarily relocated to room 141, please see printmaking Technician Jessica Desparois for any questions or concerns.
