Graduate Internships

Graduate Internships in Visual Arts offer students valuable practical experience at a range of arts and cultural institutions. Placements may be in person or remote, local or farther afield. Worth a half course (0.5 credits), these internships are available to graduate students (MA, MFA, and PhD) in all streams of our program: art history, curatorial, and studio. Students have acquired skills related to educational programming, curation, exhibition research and design, promotion and publicity, festival and exhibition planning, professional writing and editing, auction practices, collections management, fundraising, catalogue preparation, artist support, website design, archival practices, and the integration of new media (e.g., augmented reality) in display strategies.

Recent placements have included:

Embassy Cultural House
Femme Art Review
Forest City Gallery
Forest City Film Festival
Gardiner Auctions
Guelph Arts Council
McIntosh Gallery
Museum London
Museum of Ontario Archaeology
OCAD University Faculty Curriculum Development Centre
Partners in Art

Graduate students interested in an internship must contact the Graduate Chair by August 1 for fall internships and by November 1 for winter internships. There are generally no internships in the summer.

Applications for an internship must include a CV plus a cover letter. The cover letter can be brief (1 page max.), it’s just a way to introduce yourself, say a bit about your existing expertise and research interests, and outline what skills you are hoping to acquire through an internship. Send PDFs to Graduate Chair.
