Health & Wellness Services - Students

Health & Wellness offers an appointment-based medical clinic for all registered part-time and full-time students at Western and affiliated colleges.

Our Services:

Medical Care

Health & Wellness offers an appointment-based medical clinic for all registered part-time and full-time students at Western and affiliated colleges. Urgent problems such as infections or injuries can often be seen the same day. Appointments can also be booked for non-urgent medical issues. Patients may see a physician of a specific gender and may also ask to see the same doctor for each visit.

Counselling & Psychiatry

Health & Wellness provides professional and confidential services, free of charge, to students needing assistance to meet their personal, social and academic goals. Services include consultation, referral, groups and workshops, as well as brief, change-oriented psychotherapy.

At this time, Health & Wellness may be able to accept Psychiatry referrals from community physicians. Click here for the referral form.

Birth Control Information

Health & Wellness offers birth control information to patients receiving, or interested in receiving, a prescription for birth control. Appointments with a Family doctor should be booked to review information on types of birth control available and proper use and to make informed decisions about your birth control needs.

Allergy Injections & Immunization

If you receive injections for allergies, hormone therapy, or vitamin deficiencies, you can receive these injections at Health & Wellness. If you require an immunization injection, you may also book an appointment to receive your shot with us. The clinic offers a variety of immunizations including tetanus, polio, hepatitis B, HPV, and the influenza vaccine (flu shot).

COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing

Health & Wellness offers on-campus COVID-19 testing and vaccinations.

Flu Shots

Students looking to get the seasonal flu shot can stop by Health & Wellness Services in Thames Hall and request one.

Sexually Transmitted Disease Testing

Health & Wellness physicians can screen for all common sexually transmitted infections, including gonorrhoea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis B. STI testing is done with the utmost sensitivity and understanding. It's better to come in and get tested than to worry, experience discomfort, or wait for a condition to become worse.

HPV Vaccine (FREE* for a limited time)

Health & Wellness is offering the HPV Vaccine (Gardasil® 9) for FREE for a limited time. The HPV vaccine is the only vaccine that can reduce your risk of cancer. HPV is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the world. For a limited time, certain groups are eligible for the HPV vaccine (Gardasil® 9) at no cost (regular cost is over $600). For more information on HPV visit the Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU) Website.

*Eligibility: Females born in 2002, 2003 or 2004 and Males born in 2004 are eligible for the free HPV vaccine. Must be an Ontario resident to qualify for the free HPV Vaccine. If you do not meet these eligibility requirements but are opted-in to Purple Care as a full-time undergrad Western student, Purple Care will cover up to 80% of the cost.

Trans Care Team

Recognizing the unique needs of gender-diverse students, the Trans Care Team comprises a group of clinicians from Health & Wellness Mental and Physical Health support teams who work together to provide specialized psychological counselling and medical care to students in a 2SLGBTQIA+ affirmative environment. Physicians at Health & Wellness have received training from Rainbow Health Ontario in the realm of counselling, hormone prescribing/maintenance, injections, surgical referrals, and post-operative care. They are able to refer to endocrine specialists and/or psychiatrists if there are complex needs beyond the scope of their primary care providers. Mental Health counsellors at Health & Wellness offer both individual counselling as well as the Queer Connections group care sessions that run each semester.

Dietitian Services

Gut Healthy Dietitian will be providing dietitian services on-campus for students, faculty, and staff through Health and Wellness Services at Thames Hall.
