Research

Western University is a research-intensive institution, and its Department of English and Writing Studies is an active partner in that mandate. Research and publication in a wide variety of fields are vital components of our faculty's contributions to the university's intellectual life. Our faculty includes a Canada Research Chair, three Distinguished University Professors, four appointees to the Royal Society of Canada, and one, emeritus appointee to the New Zealand Academy of Humanities.

Members of the department have won the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Humboldt Fellowship, the Hellmuth Prize, the Polanyi Prize, and numerous Social Science and Humanities Research Council Grants. Our faculty also make their expertise available to a much larger public through Contact Western, a university-wide listing of academics who are accessible for consultation by those outside the university community.

The Department of English also frequently plays host to promising young scholars who have chosen to complete Postdoctoral Fellowships here.
