Refresher Workshops
SFIC certification is maintained by demonstrating ongoing excellence in delivering the program and continuing learning through professional development and training. These three (3) hour sessions provide opportunities for certified instructors to learn, network, review and practice knowledge and skills with other instructors . Length: 3 hours, Prerequisite(s): SFIC, Registration Fee: $50.00 + HST.
Continuing Education Credit value = 1-3
Who should take refresher workshops?
- Certified Seniors' Fitness Instructors
SFIC volunteer group leaders or trainers planning refresher workshops for volunteer groups must complete the Refresher Workshop Proposal Form 4-6 weeks prior to the event.

This Zoom webinar will teach you to effectively manage exercise intensity for older adult participants in senior fitness classes. Through a combination of lecture, discussion, and hands-on practice, you will explore strategies and techniques to ensure safe and effective workouts for the senior community.
- Prescribing Appropriate Intensity for Older Adults: Learn how to align workout intensity with the needs and capacities of older adults.
- Monitoring Older Adult Participants' Intensity: Explore practical methods for real-time monitoring of intensity during older adult fitness classes.
- Comparing the Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) Scale with Heart Rate (HR) Monitoring: Understand the differences between each method and how to apply the methods effectively within an older adult fitness context.
- Wellness Checks for Older Adults: Learn how to conduct checks that prioritize safety and optimize fitness outcomes for older adults.
Following the lecture, we will engage in a group discussion where participants can share their experiences, ask questions, and exchange ideas. After you reserve a spot through MyCCAA, you will be re-directed to Western's payment portal "PurplePay" to process the payment and complete your registration. Only those who have reserved a spot through MyCCAA and made a payment through PurplePay will receive a link to join the meeting(s) on Zoom.
Note: It may take up to three (3) business days for your payment to be reflected inside of MyCCAA.

To ensure a smooth experience, here are some essential Zoom webinar tips and instructions:
- Set-Up and Join Time: Please allow sufficient time before the webinar begins to set up the Zoom app on your desktop computer or mobile device. You can join the webinar 30 minutes before the start time.
- For First-Time Zoom Users: If you are new to Zoom, we recommend downloading the Zoom desktop or mobile app in advance to avoid any delays due to device or internet speed issues.
- Note for Participation: You will NOT be able to participate using the Zoom web app. The desktop or mobile app is necessary for participation.
- Link Access: If you have used Zoom from your computer before, the webinar link found in your confirmation email should open automatically. Ensure you have the most up-to-date version of Zoom prior to joining.
- Using a Mobile Device: Download the free Zoom app from the app store for a seamless experience.
- No Zoom on Your Computer? Manual Instructions: In case the application doesn't pop up for download automatically, here are steps to manually join the webinar:
- Download the Zoom application from the Zoom Download Center (Zoom Client for Meetings is required for webinars).
- Click 'Download Zoom Client for Meetings,' save the file, and open/run ZoomInstaller.exe (Windows) or zoomusinstaller.pkg (Mac).
