Fall Prevention Workshop Description & Discussion Topics
Falls are one of the leading concerns for older adults—but many can be prevented through consistent, purposeful exercise. This refresher course is designed for group fitness instructors who work with older adults and want to confidently integrate effective fall-prevention strategies into their classes.
Through practical, hands-on learning, participants will explore key strength, mobility, and balance exercises that support stability and reduce the risk of falls. The session also provides guidance on safely teaching participants how to get down to and up off the floor—an essential skill for both safety and independence.
Participants will learn to:
- Better understand the strength and mobility requirements necessary to minimize fall risk
- Integrate targeted fall-prevention exercises into existing group fitness programs
- Educate and empower participants to recognize and reduce their own fall risk
- Safely and progressively challenge balance to enhance confidence and control
By focusing on intentional, evidence-based movement strategies, this session will help instructors develop engaging, effective, and easy-to-implement fall-prevention exercise class enhancements that promote confidence, resilience, and safety for older adults in the community.
Following the lecture, we will engage in a group discussion where participants can share their experiences, ask questions, and exchange ideas. Whether fall prevention is a current key component of your exercise program design or you are new to the process, this interactive session will provide valuable insights from the CCAA leadership training team and fellow seniors' fitness instructors.
