Why did you choose Arts and Humanities at Western?
I chose Arts and Humanities at Western because of the numerous opportunities in the French Studies department, such as Western’s French Immersion partnership at Trois-Pistoles in Quebec and the third-year exchange program in Nice, France. I also appreciate that Arts and Humanities is a small faculty and community within Western where students can feel comfortable, be creative, and gain inspiration.
What is one highlight of your Western experience so far?
A highlight of my Western experience so far is the program I participated in at Trois-Pistoles in Quebec. I took two French courses at Western’s French Immersion School in Quebec while living with a host family and speaking French at all times of the day for five straight weeks. Not only was it an amazing educational experience, but also an opportunity for further self-discovery in regards to my future goals.
What are your plans after graduation?
I am hoping to study at Teacher’s College and become an elementary school French teacher. I am currently looking into teaching programs abroad.
What advice would you give to incoming Arts and Humanities students?
Don’t be afraid to be yourself! There are approximately 38,000 students at Western. You will have no trouble finding people with similar interests, hobbies, and goals as you if you just put yourself out there. We are a very accepting and welcoming community that is open to individuality and personal creative expression.
What is the best thing about your department?
The best thing about French studies is the opportunity it provides for the students to continuously better themselves and be immersed in the French language.
