Campus Safety Grant Funded Projects

The following projects have been supported by Western’s Campus Safety Grant, with funding provided by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.

Past grants have ranged from $500 to $15,000 with partial funding awarded in some instances.

2025-2026 Projects Funded

CREVAWC

Raise awareness about preventing sexual violence on campus by sharing results of Undressing Consent. Creation of graphic design materials and infographics. Provide professional development and support opportunities for facilitators of Undressing Consent program.

University Student’s Council (USC)

Provide transportation to students after late night community building activities during OWeek.

Student Experience

To enhance women's safety during Orientation Week by providing free taxi chits for safe transportation.

Campus Safety & Emergency Services

Funding to install closed-circuit television surveillance cameras in locations where the opportunity for crime is increased, adequate surveillance is limited and faculty, and staff and students’ personal safety is at risk. Provide campus safety training for vulnerable units on campus.

Student Experience (Wellness & Well-being)

Sexual Violence Review Team training; Respondent Education programming and support; gender-based vi9olence prevention education events, outreach culture-setting tools and survivor support programming.

Faculty of Education

Sanyas Core Foundations Indigenous Cultural Safety training to educate staff and faculty on the ongoing impacts of colonization, systemic racism, and how these factors affect the well-being of Indigenous peoples.

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

Provide faculty and staff with targeted education on de-escalation strategies (practical tools to identify, prevent and de-escalate crisis). The training is geared to vulnerable populations (those who have a high contact volume with students, staff and visitors) across campus.

2024-2025 Funded Projects

Funding for student events that include sexual wellness, healthy neurodivergent relationships, eco-feminism and violence, Pride, and transforming tension – learning healthy ways to process and release anger and frustration. Commission unique designs for stickers and colouring pages to promote GBSV services. Services from a local violence prevention organization that specializes in respondent education. Provide education and resource kits to survivors accessing Student Support and Case Management Services and to priority at-risk populations via campus partners. Provide survivor-centric programming. Provide training to Sexual Violence Response Team with respect to fundamental administrative law principles in postsecondary settings and training on skills for relational engagement with survivors and respondents.

Student Experience (Student Engagement)

Funding to offer Care Hubs during OWeek that provide a range of services, supports and resources to reach students during their initial transition to Western.

University Students’ Council (USC)

Funding for speakers and artists to create a foundation for students to engage in conversations on topics such as safe and healthy relationships; women’s rights and empowerment; campus safety; Indigenous rights; healthy sexuality; anti-oppression frameworks. Provide transportation to students after late night community building activities during OWeek.

Western’s Office of Indigenous Initiatives

Funding to provide Indigenous students with access to safe transportation options during vulnerable hours on campus. Equip Indigenous students with personal safety alarms to enhance their sense of security and confidence while moving through their communities and accessing cultural knowledge opportunities offered on campus.
