Research Interests/Specializations

Rhetoric; professional communication; history of the English language; narratology; creative writing

Russell Hoban said that “language is an archaeological vehicle […] a whole palimpsest of human effort and history.” I have explored medieval Latin, Old English, Old Norse, and many more modern languages, but I am still not satisfied with what I’ve found. From the forgotten forms of words and stories – I believe – we can distill something of the human essence, and that search motivates my research and teaching.
