What is the history of labour relations between Western and its faculty?

Western and its faculty have a long history of working together through collective bargaining. We remain optimistic that we can reach an agreement without a labour disruption.

Is there any impact on campus services right now?

All campus services including classes, labs, research, and student services are running normally across campus. Academic dates and deadlines have not changed. 

When did the last contract expire and when did negotiations start? 

UWOFA members have been working under an expired contract since June 30, 2026. Negotiations began on June 4, 2026, and both parties will continue bargaining as we work toward a tentative agreement. 

How can I stay informed on what is happening regarding contract negotiations? 

We’ll post updates on the Contract Negotiations site. If a strike occurs, you’ll also find a link to these updates on Western’s homepage. Students, staff, and faculty will receive major updates directly through their Western email accounts.
