Prof. T.K. Sham Receives the 2025 CIC Medal
The Canadian Institute of Chemistry (CIC) has awarded its highest honor, the 2025 CIC Medal, to Professor T.K. Sham for his outstanding contributions to chemistry in Canada.
Dr. Sham advanced synchrotron capabilities at the Canadian Synchrotron Radiation Facility (CSRF) in Stoughton Wisconsin and helped develop the Canadian Light Source (CLS). He held a Tier I Canada Research Chair (2002-2023). His research spans bimetallic alloys, nanostructures, energy materials and devices, and cultural heritage materials, with recent highlights like retrieving images from tarnished daguerreotypes and anisotropic phase transition of materials under quantum confinement.
With 670 publications and numerous accolades, including the Order of Canada (2016), Dr. Sham continues to lead and inspire in Canadian science.
Dr Sham will present the award lecture “The science of scale and synchrotron technology for discovery: exploring materials electronic structure, functionality, and dynamics” at the CSC 2025 meeting in Ottawa in June 2025.
Please join us in congratulating Prof. T.K. Sham on this well-deserved honor.
