Kirsty Yuen Ki Ng Wins 2024 G. Michael and Joan Bancroft Research Award
Yuen Ki (Kirsty) Ng, a graduate of Western University’s Honours B.Sc. program in Chemistry, with a Major in Medical Sciences and Science Internship Program, is the proud recipient of the 2024 Bancroft Award. Kirsty completed her undergraduate studies in 2021, with a thesis under the supervision of Dr. Lars Konermann, where she focused on investigating protein aggregation using molecular dynamics simulations.
Kirsty is continuing her research in Dr. Konermann’s lab, where she is further examining the mechanisms that govern protein aggregation inhibition and investigating the potential of gas-phase enzyme catalysis.
The G. Michael and Joan Bancroft Research Award is an annual recognition given to a registered Ph.D. student in the Chemistry Department at Western University, based on research excellence demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications. Established in 2019 through a generous gift from G. Michael Bancroft (Ph.D. '67 Cambridge, DSc '06 Western) and Joan Bancroft (B.A. '67 Manitoba), the award honors G. Michael Bancroft's significant contributions to research and the establishment of collaborative scientific facilities. The award is presented in the student's ninth term (end of the third year) following a 30-minute oral presentation. The recipient is selected by the Graduate Scholarship and Awards Committee.
