Increasing Your Research Impact

Enhancing the visibility of your research is a key step toward increasing its impact. Strategies include creating and maintaining researcher profiles, integrating knowledge mobilization into your work, and disseminating your findings through targeted and strategic channels.

Online Researcher Profiles

At the earliest convenience, create online researcher profiles to aggregate your scholarly activities, maintaining and updating the profiles regularly.

A robust and up-to-date researcher profile will make it easier for other people to distinguish you from other researchers with the same or similar names, link your research outputs and activities to you, and may lead to more opportunities to increase your research visibility, recognition and collaborations. Visit the Western Libraries' guide for more information.

Integrate Knowledge Mobilization into Your Research Program

When building a research project/program, think strategically and put together a knowledge mobilization plan.

Western Research provides tools, supports and professional development opportunities to help you stay up-to-date with this critical component of your research program. Connect with your faculty Research Officer for support on integrating knowledge mobilization plans into grant applications.

Strategically Disseminate Your Published Research

When publishing and disseminating the knowledge, choose the right venue to disseminate effectively to the target audience.

Consider publishing in open access venues and sharing data, including depositing your research outputs and datasets in open repositories. In addition to being a requirement for Tri-Agency funded research, this ensures potential partners, collaborators and scholars in your field can access your work.
