Undergraduate Students
Western values the contributions undergraduate students make to helping foster a culture of research excellence on campus, while gaining experiential learning opportunities to advance their careers. How do you get involved? Undergraduate students often become engaged in research by:
- Discussing opportunities with your faculty advisor
- Identifying a potential faculty member with whom you'd like to work, and contacting them
- Participating in opportunities offered by Western's work study program
Additional opportunities include:
Undergraduate Student Research Internships Program: Provides undergraduate students with engaged research experiences and opportunities to learn new research methods and techniques alongside faculty mentors.
Head & Heart Program: Aims to open space for Indigenous students to use Indigenous Knowledge systems and language within undergraduate summer research projects across a wide variety of academic disciplines.
Undergraduate Student Research Awards: Meant to nurture your interest and fully develop your potential for a research career. A USRA is held full-time for 16 weeks.
Graduate Student & Postdoctoral Scholars
Much of the research carried out at Western involves graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, who are well-supported through the School of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies. Other resources include:

Additional opportunities include:
Academic Joint Fund for Support of Graduate Student Research and Scholarship: Initiated to help support the creation of events that bring external participants to share their research and interact with Western's graduate students.
Western Postdoctoral Fellowships Program: Provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, nationally and internationally, who will contribute positively to research excellence at the university and help advance Western's strategic research plan.
Canada-US Fulbright Program: Reciprocal exchange that provides the opportunity for outstanding Canadian and American students and scholars to lecture, research and pursue graduate study in the United States and Canada.
