Training Fees

Hands-on training workshops require significant institutional resources, including registered veterinary technician instructors, training materials and supplies, animal care support, facility use, and administrative coordination.

To ensure the sustainability and quality of the Institutional Animal User Training Program, fees are charged to the Principal Investigator’s (PI’s) laboratory after a student attends a hands-on session. Charging the lab — rather than the individual student — reinforces that training is a research cost associated with conducting animal-based work.

Guidelines

  • All online ethical core courses are provided at no cost.
  • Fees are applied after the date of the hands-on workshops.
  • Charges are applied directly to the PI’s laboratory account.

Unprepared Fees

Hands-on workshops require advance preparation, instructor time, animal care coordination, and limited seat availability.

Students may be denied entry and their PI's lab charged a fee if they:

  • Do not attend a registered session (no-show)
  • Arrive late
  • Arrive without completing the required prerequisite coursework & homework-quiz

This policy ensures responsible use of institutional resources, prevents unused training spaces, and maintains fairness for other researchers who may be on waitlists.
