Applying to the Arts & Humanities Internship Program

Thank you for your interest in the Arts & Humanities Internship Program (AHIP). The application process involves a few required steps, outlined below. Please read carefully before applying.


Step 1: Apply Through Western Connect (Mandatory)

All students must apply to AHIP through Western Connect.

Your application will be reviewed to confirm that you meet the eligibility requirements. You must also complete the required internship preparation (outlined in Step 2) to be accepted into the program.

Please check Western Connect for the portal opening date to apply for the upcoming internship cycle.

To apply to the AHIP . . .

  • Log in to Western Connect.
  • On the Dashboard, click “Internship/Co-op” in the left menu and “Apply to a Program” in the top-right corner.

  • Select "Arts and Humanities Internship" and click "Apply."

  • Complete the application form and submit it. 

Once your application has been reviewed and if you are eligible, your status in Connect will be changed to “Conditionally Approved.” You will be added to the AHIP site in OWL Brightspace, and you will receive instructions outlining the next steps and the internship preparation requirements.


Step 2: Complete Internship Preparation (Mandatory)

To be fully approved for the AHIP, you must complete all the following internship preparation requirements and upload your proofs of completion to the AHIP site in OWL Brightspace.

      • Career Decision Making
      • Job Search Skills
      • Developing an Effective Resume and Cover Letter
      • Interview Skills

      After completing the modules . . .

      • generate a certificate or take a screenshot of the completion page and
      • go to the AHIP site in OWL, click “Assessments” > “Assignments,” and upload your certificates or screenshots to the “Internship Preparation” page. 
  • CliftonStrengths Assessment and Modules

    CliftonStrengths helps you understand your strengths and learn to apply them in different careers and work environments.

    Complete the assessment

    Upper-year students must either . . .

      • pay a $20 fee for the CliftonStrengths Top 5 Assessment Code, or
      • receive a free code by participating in the Learn to Lead program.    
  • Note: If you have already completed the CliftonStrengths assessment since starting university, you do NOT need to retake it.

    Complete the following three online modules

      • Introduction to a Strengths-Based Approach
      • Exploring Your Unique Top 5 CliftonStrengths
      • Leveraging Your CliftonStrengths at Western
  • Note: These modules may not open in Firefox. Please use Chrome or Edge.

    Upload to Brightspace:

      • Top 5 Strengths report
      • Certificate for the three modules 
        •  

Bias and Microaggressions Training: Impact, Prevention, and Intervention

Access the training through the link above or via the EDI Learning website. When completed, upload your certificate of completion to the AHIP site in OWL.

 


      • Resume and Cover Letter Review

        Review Western’s Careers & Experience resume and cover letter resources.

        Have your materials reviewed by a Career Education Peer Advisor (CEPA) either . . .

        in person (see hours and location on the Career Education’s Peer Advisor Program website) or . . .

        by email to cepa@uwo.ca.

        Upload to Brightspace:

        the signed checklists with the advisor’s name and date.

        Note: Peer Advising is closed during Fall and Spring Reading Weeks, December and April exam periods, and the December holiday break.


        Step 3: Attend Workshops (Recommended)

        Students are strongly encouraged to attend relevant Careers Education workshops to strengthen their applications.
