Class and Exam Conflicts

The information below will help answer common questions about class & exam conflicts, midterms, final exams, and special exams.

Class and Exam Conflicts

Academic consideration requests can be made for class and exam conflicts. See specific scenarios below. Submit conflicts at least one week in advance.

Class Conflicts

  1. If you have a class conflict with an exam or test you may need academic consideration to receive accommodations for the exam or test. Submit a ticket through the Student Absence Portal.
  2. Upload supporting documentation (screen shot of exam/test (dates/times) on Brightspace or course outline as well as your timetable): **PDF or JPG preferred

The exception to this is when your class/tutorial or lab conflicts with your special exam. In these cases, the special exam takes priority, and you will be approved to miss the conflicting class/tutorial or lab (see Academic Calendar).

Midterm Exam Conflicts

If you have two midterms scheduled at the same time:

  1. Review your course outline and check whether either course offers a makeup exam.
    1. If only one course has a makeup midterm, you should move that one and write the one that does not have a makeup.
    2. If neither course offers a makeup midterm, proceed to step 2.
  2. Contact both instructors.
    1. Explain the scheduling conflict and discuss what alternate arrangements can be made (e.g. write back-to-back exams or an alternative time).
    2. If the conflict can not be resolved, submit a ticket through the Student Absence Portal to discuss the situation with the Advising team.
      1. Upload supporting documentation (screen shot of exam/test (dates/times) on Brightspace or course outline): **PDF or JPG preferred

In-class midterms take precedence over other midterm conflicts. Do not select to move an in-class midterm. Regularly scheduled classes, labs, tutorials take precedence over midterms. Submit conflicts at least one week in advance.

Final Exam Conflicts

You will be notified by the Registrar’s Office if you have a direct final exam conflict or a multiple exam situation.
