Undergraduate Students

Western values the contributions undergraduate students make to helping foster a culture of research excellence on campus, while gaining experiential learning opportunities to advance their careers. How do you get involved? Undergraduate students often become engaged in research by:

  • Identifying a potential faculty member with whom you'd like to work, and contacting them
  • Participating in opportunities offered by Western's work study program

Additional opportunities include:

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Program: Provides undergraduate students with engaged research experiences and opportunities to learn new research methods and techniques alongside faculty mentors.

Head & Heart Program: Aims to open space for Indigenous students to use Indigenous Knowledge systems and language within undergraduate summer research projects across a wide variety of academic disciplines.

NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards: Meant to nurture your interest and fully develop your potential for a research career in the natural sciences and engineering. A USRA is held full-time for 16 weeks.

World's Challenge Challenge: Competition helps students develop  academic, oral presentation and entrepreneurial skills, all while encouraging you to take action on global issues and challenges.
