Ananya Balike

balike_ananyaMy name is Ananya Balike and I am in my first year of the Linguistics Masters Program. I went to high school in Brampton, and I did my undergraduate degree at Western with a Psychology major, minors in Biology and Creative Writing, and a French certificate. Having dabbled in multiple seemingly unrelated fields, I learned that language was what unified all sciences and arts. I am pursuing this Masters degree as I believe that language is intricately woven into too many aspects of the human experience to NOT have a burning desire to study it.

Some of my hobbies include experimental and creative writing, dancing, and singing - ways of exploring language and expression outside of research. What interests me most about linguistics is the interconnectedness of psychosocial, biological, and philosophical aspects of the field. Over the course of my studies, I've shifted from the perspective that "everything HAS language" to a more radical view: "everything IS language."
