The Musculoskeletal Innovation Factory (MSK-IF) is a research incubator that facilitates inclusion, blue sky thinking, and co-development to create and test innovative, socially just, and equitable solutions for priority issues faced by patients with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.

Working with Western’s community clinical partners (i.e., Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic, Joint Replacement Clinic, London Spine Program, Roth | McFarlane Hand and Upper Limb Centre) building on the collaborative networks within the Bone and Joint Institute, the MSK-IF unites the Faculty of Health Sciences researchers with different expertise and provide new mechanisms and technical support to realize innovation.

Led by the Faculty of Health Sciences, MSK-IF aims to answer the urgent need to enhance knowledge and improve understanding of MSK health, particularly in the context of the post-pandemic reality. It focuses on pioneering research into accessible, virtual/remote, and in-person care, with novel assessments and interventions to leverage emerging technologies in MSK studies.
