Event cancellation guidelines

Western continues to monitor the ongoing evolving situation with COVID-19 pandemic and takes its direction and shares information from federal, provincial and local health authorities.

To ensure the health and safety of our visitors and the campus and local community, and in consultation with our local Middlesex-London Health Unit, Western is advising that all discretionary events on campus with more than 50 people currently scheduled until April 30, 2020 be cancelled, postponed or offered virtually.

This includes March Break Open House originally scheduled for this Saturday, March 14. Brescia, Huron and King’s have also decided to postpone their Open House events.

Decisions related to Congress 2020 (May 30 to June 5) and Spring Convocation (June 8 to 12 and 15 to 19) are premature at this point as these events are months away.

We have heard the concerns from our campus community regarding continuation of in-person classes. Western is consulting with the MLHU and planning is well underway to provide flexible options should the University need to move to online-only learning. A decision will be made on this before the end of the day tomorrow, Friday, March 13.
