COVID-19 masking mandate
June 29, 2022 11:00 AM
With the provincial government recently ending mandatory masking in almost all settings, we wanted to provide you with an update on Western’s masking requirements for the July and August summer academic term, and a look ahead to the fall term.
Masking requirements
The end of the provincial mask mandate is a sign that we are gradually lifting safety protocols. With the agreement of Western’s affiliated university colleges, effective immediately, masks will no longer be required indoors at Western, Brescia, Huron and King’s until further notice, with a few exceptions outlined below. Public health continues to encourage the use of masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please respect those who choose to continue to wear masks.
Masks continue to be required for the following:
- July 4 to 8 graduation celebrations in Alumni Hall will continue to require masks indoors for all those in attendance.
- Masks will still be required for anyone who is symptomatic and seeking medical care in Student Health Services or the Staff and Faculty Family Practice Clinic.
- Medical-grade (ASTM level 3) masks will still be required for anyone seeking health care or any learner/employee participating in clinical skills laboratories. Patrons, as well as employees working in other community-based services (i.e., Community Legal Services) will also be required to wear a mask.
- Current public health measures also stipulate that wearing a well-fitted mask in public settings is required for 10 days following symptom onset or a positive test – whichever is earlier.
Vaccination requirements
We are actively working on our vaccination policy and, as outlined in our update this spring, we will provide an update prior to September 1, 2022.
Campus community members will still be asked to complete their daily screening for symptoms prior to visiting campus.
We appreciate your shared commitment to take care of yourselves, each other and our community.
