The Historical section of CSSL Weather Intelligence provides tools for exploring and analyzing past weather events across Canada. By combining historical surface observations with severe weather information, users can investigate how weather conditions evolved during individual events and revisit significant weather days using an interactive timeline.
Historical data allow users to move beyond a snapshot of an event and examine its progression over time, helping to provide greater context for severe weather analysis, research, and post-event assessment.
Key Features:
- Explore historical weather station observations and examine how conditions changed over a selected period of time.
- Replay past weather days in the Severe Storm Summaries section using an interactive timeline. Surface weather stations can be filtered to highlight stations that experienced severe weather, allowing users to focus on observations most relevant to a particular event. Historical lightning observations, severe weather alerts, and maximum hail size are all synchronized to the timeline for a consistent view of how an event developed and evolved. Forecasts available for the day of each event are included within the Severe Storm Summaries, allowing users to compare forecast guidance with the observed evolution of the event.
