Research Interest/Specialization

My research interests centre on critiques of power and the oppressive structures that produce and reproduce inequality and violence. I am also interested in how these structures are challenged through community organizing and activism

How can resources concerning trauma-informed and feminist approaches be optimized for children and youth displaced in emergency and domestic violence shelters? How can current and new knowledge be translated from academic theory into accessible, actionable, and culturally safe practices? How can accessibility be improved, structural barriers be broken down, and professional language be simplified? My area of interest lies in feminist approaches to trauma, caregiving, and community intervention, particularly as they relate to children affected by domestic and gender-based violence. The practical application of my IRP will focus on developing a localized, age-appropriate coping toolkit for children entering emergency shelters alongside a caregiver escaping abuse, with an emphasis on emotional processing, safety planning, and resilience-building. It would prioritize accessible, community-based resources that translate feminist and trauma-informed theory into practical support tools for vulnerable populations.
