This conference aims to bring together interdisciplinary researchers and research groups across campus engaged in mapping and historical memory, qualitative mapping, spatial storytelling, and community-based research.
It emerged from ongoing collaborations between projects and departments across Western, including Anthropology, Media Studies, History, Computer Science, and Archives and Special Collections, as well as initiatives such as the Surviving Memory in Postwar El Salvador project.
Through these collaborations, we identified a need for a shared space where researchers working with spatial methods and memory practices could exchange ideas, build networks, and strengthen a research community on campus.
