Planning support for major campus events
We support major campus events through emergency planning, communication, coordination, and response support.

Campus major events planning, preparation and support
Emergency Management & Continuity of Operations can support planning conversations for large or complex campus events where emergency readiness, communication, resource coordination, or response planning may be required.
Planning before the event
Major events may require early planning to identify safety considerations, communication needs, weather impacts, traffic or crowd considerations, accessibility needs, and available response resources.
Emergency Management & Continuity of Operations can help campus partners think through possible risks and prepare appropriate support before the event takes place.
Support during events
Depending on the size, location, complexity, and risk profile of an event, support may include coordination with campus partners, communication planning, resource readiness, or operational support.
The goal is to help events run safely, support effective decision-making, and prepare for issues that may affect participants, guests, facilities, or campus operations.
Planning support areas
Major events may require different types of planning support depending on the event size, location, audience, timing, and potential operational impacts.
Emergency readiness
Planning for possible emergencies, urgent communications, response resources, evacuation considerations, and coordination with campus or external emergency partners.
Communication planning
Identifying how event organizers, campus partners, response teams, and decision-makers will share information before and during the event.
Weather and disruption planning
Considering weather, service disruptions, facility impacts, access issues, or other conditions that could affect the event or campus operations.
Resource coordination
Supporting conversations about staffing, equipment, space, traffic or crowd considerations, and other resources that may be needed for safe event operations.
Mobile Operations Trailer
Field-based coordination support for planned operations, events, or emergency response.
The Mobile Operations Trailer may be used to support field coordination where an on-site operational presence is helpful.
On-site coordination when additional support is needed
It may help provide an operational presence close to an event area when additional coordination, communication, or support resources are required.
Emergency Operations Centre
The Emergency Operations Centre, or EOC, supports coordinated response during significant incidents, disruptions, or major campus events requiring enhanced oversight.
Coordination location
The Emergency Operations Centre is a coordination location used during significant incidents, emergencies, major disruptions, or events requiring enhanced oversight.
It supports information sharing, resource coordination, decision support, and communication between response partners.
Support for response coordination
When activated, the EOC helps support coordinated action by bringing together appropriate information, resources, and decision support.
Public-facing information should remain high-level and should not include internal EOC locations, activation procedures, or operational details.
Emergency Operations Control Group
The Emergency Operations Control Group, or EOCG, is a senior university group that may be assembled during a significant emergency or disruption to support institutional coordination.
Senior-level coordination
The Emergency Operations Control Group supports senior-level coordination during significant emergencies, disruptions, or events affecting Western University.
The group may support strategic decision-making, communication, resource coordination, and recovery planning.
Support for incident response
The EOCG may support Incident Command by helping coordinate information, resources, public communication, institutional decisions, and recovery activities.
Public website content should describe the EOCG at a high level and avoid publishing internal membership lists, notification procedures, checklists, or operational processes.
