Emergency Notifications

Alert WesternU is Western University’s emergency mass notification system, powered by Alertable. It is used to share urgent emergency and safety information with the Western community during situations that may affect campus safety or university operations.

Call 911 immediately if there is an emergency, immediate danger, fire, medical emergency, crime in progress, or urgent threat to safety.

What is Alert WesternU?

Alert WesternU helps the university share urgent emergency and safety information with the Western community.

Emergency mass notification

Alert WesternU is Western University’s emergency mass notification system, powered by Alertable.

The system is used to share urgent emergency and safety information during situations that may affect campus safety or university operations.

Who receives alerts?

Current Western and affiliate faculty, staff, and students with a Western email address are automatically enrolled to receive university-issued emergency email notifications.

Community members are encouraged to add additional contact methods and download the Alertable app so they can receive timely emergency information.

How alerts are sent

Alert WesternU may use several communication channels to help share urgent information as quickly as possible.

Western email

Current Western and affiliate faculty, staff, and students with a Western email address receive university-issued emergency email notifications.

Alertable app

The Alertable app can send push notifications to a smartphone or electronic device when emergency information is issued.

Text message

Users can add a mobile number through the configuration portal to receive emergency notifications by SMS text message.

Microsoft Teams

Emergency communications may also be shared through approved Western communication channels, including Microsoft Teams where available.

Members of the Western community can review and update their Alert WesternU settings to add additional ways to receive emergency notifications.

Add contact methods

Use the Alert WesternU configuration portal to add additional contact methods, such as a mobile number or personal email address.

Keeping your settings current helps ensure emergency information can reach you through more than one channel.

Review your settings

Review your notification settings regularly, especially if your phone number, email address, or device changes.

When alerts may be issued

Alert WesternU may be used for urgent situations that could affect campus safety, university operations, or the ability to access campus buildings or services.

Immediate safety concerns

Alerts may be issued for situations involving imminent danger, urgent safety concerns, or instructions that need to reach the Western community quickly.

Evacuations or closures

Alerts may be used for building evacuations, campus closures, service disruptions, or other urgent changes affecting campus operations.

Severe weather or major disruptions

Alerts may be issued for severe weather emergencies, major incidents, or critical university status updates.

Important notes

Alert WesternU is one part of Western’s emergency communication process. During an emergency, always follow official instructions and use 911 for immediate danger.

Alert WesternU does not replace 911

Alert WesternU is used to share urgent emergency and safety information with the Western community.

If there is an emergency, immediate danger, fire, medical emergency, crime in progress, or urgent threat to safety, call 911 immediately.

Follow official instructions

During an emergency, follow instructions from Western University, Alert WesternU, emergency responders, and on-site officials.
