Western Foot Patrol operates from September 1 to April 30. Safe escorts are available on a first-come, first-served basis during its hours of operation.
- Escorts cannot be booked in advance
- The average wait for a team is approximately 5 to 10 minutes
- Students, employees, faculty members, and visitors may use the service
- Foot Patrol serves Western’s main campus, West Campus, Huron University, and King’s University College

Contact Western Special Constable Service if Foot Patrol is closed, if you feel unsafe on campus, or if you need non-emergency safety assistance.
- Tell the Communications Centre where you are
- Explain the safety concern
- Follow any instructions provided by WSCS
- Call 911 if there is an immediate threat, crime in progress, fire, or urgent medical emergency

Call WSCSWork Safe Program
The Work Safe Program provides scheduled check-ins for members of the Western community who are working or studying alone on campus during evening and overnight hours.
- Available seven days a week from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Foot Patrol operates the program from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. during its operating season
- WSCS operates the program from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. during Foot Patrol season
- From May 1 to August 31, WSCS operates the full program from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Work Safe is a check-in service and does not provide transportation or rides.
Learn About Work SafeBlue Emergency Phones
Blue emergency phones are located across Western’s campus and connect directly with the WSCS Communications Centre.
- Use a blue emergency phone if you need urgent assistance and cannot safely use your own phone
- Activate the phone and speak clearly with the Communications Centre
- Provide your location and explain what is happening
- Call 911 whenever there is an immediate threat to life, a crime in progress, fire, or urgent medical emergency
Plan Ahead
Before travelling across campus in the evening or overnight:
- Check current Foot Patrol hours and request an escort when the service is available
- Keep your phone charged and save the WSCS non-emergency number: 519-661-3300
- Use well-lit, commonly travelled routes where possible
- Know the locations of blue emergency phones along your route
- Contact WSCS if you feel unsafe or need non-emergency safety assistance
