CSPTED Audits

WSCS conducts audits to identify environmental, operational, and physical security concerns in campus buildings and outdoor spaces.

These reviews help departments identify practical improvements related to visibility, lighting, access control, signage, landscaping, and the safe use of space.

Security Audits and Environmental Design

WSCS reviews campus spaces using security principles and Campus Safety Provided Through Environmental Design (CSPTED) to identify features that may affect safety, visibility, access, and the use of an area.

• Lighting, sightlines, and visibility
• Doors, locks, card access, and entry points
• Landscaping and areas where visibility may be obstructed
• Wayfinding, emergency information, and security signage
• Patterns of movement and the intended use of the space
• Opportunities to strengthen natural surveillance and access control

Recommendations may involve coordination with the department responsible for the space and other University partners.

Western departments may contact WSCS to discuss a safety or security concern involving a campus building, office, workspace, entrance, pathway, or outdoor area.
