Special Olympics
Sergeant Rob Hughes recently had the opportunity to coach during the one-day Basketball Unified Special Olympics held at the Western Student Recreation Centre. He was very excited to see his team win the initial tournament, which qualified them for the Invitational Youth Games in Toronto.
Rob had previous coaching experience with the Cambridge Soccer and Minor Hockey leagues, and was happy to support the Western students and Special Olympic athletes, witnessing the impressive commitment and dedication of everyone involved. The Special Olympic and Unified Athletes did an amazing job representing Western, and placed third in their Division, receiving the Bronze medal.
Proudly wearing their Western uniforms, the team was able to experience both the Opening and Closing ceremonies, which was an amazing experience for all involved.
