Eligibility

All students (including international) are eligible to apply for the Science Co-op Program if they meet the following criteria:

• Enrolled as a full-time* student in the Faculty of Science or BMSc Program at Western.
• Currently in:
  • A 4-year degree
  • Year 2** or Year 3 (or Year 4 if student has remaining course work after co-op to complete degree)
• In good standing with the Dean's Office.
• Returning to at least 2.0 courses at Western after the co-op to continue their undergraduate degree.
• Have a cumulative average of at least 60%

*Students registered with Accessible Education are considered full-time if enrolled in 40% of a full course load. Students are asked to advise the Co-op Program Coordinator if they are registered with Accessible Education.

** Students from all science disciplines are eligible to enter the program in Year 2; however, it should be noted that the majority of job postings targeting second-year students are directed toward those pursuing studies in Computer Science or Statistical and Actuarial Sciences. Four-month summer co-op opportunities for other disciplines are limited. Students in programs less aligned with the tech and financial math sectors are more likely to get a position in year 3.

Online registration opens August 22, 2025 for 2025/2026 co-op at WesternConnect:

1. Click “Internship/Co-op” on the left
2. Click “Apply to Program” on the right
3. Select “Science Co-op” and follow the instructions (answer the questions)
4. Finish by clicking “Submit Application” only once and wait until the confirmation page appears

Once we have your information, your application will be reviewed. 

We will contact you in late September with an update on your Program approval.

Once approved, we will:

• Invite you to begin Science 3391 .
• Assist you with your resume and cover letter development.
• Give you access to Science Co-op job postings.
