Diploma in Business French

The Diploma in Business French is a 4.0 credit unique program in Canada which certifies that a student has reached a certain level of proficiency in French communication skills with an emphasis on French in the workplace and in business environments.

French is the first language of about a quarter of Canada's population and of 90 million people worldwide. Proficiency in French is a valuable asset in today's international job market.

Admission and progression requirements

Admission Requirements
Any student who has graduated with a 3 or 4-year undergraduate degree may apply to be admitted to the Diploma program, subject to prerequisites and general university admission requirements. Contact the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Academic Counselling Office to apply.
Completion of 1.0 course from French 2900-2999 with a mark of at least 60%, or permission of the Department of French Studies based on the Placement Test.

Progression and Graduation Requirements
Students must achieve an average of at least 70% in the 4.0 courses in order to progress in and complete this program. Students must receive counselling from the Department on their choice of courses and should seek regular advice on the availability of courses.

Diplomas of the Paris Chamber of Commerce

The Department of French at Western is a certified examination center for the Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris. Students are encouraged to write the examinations held on campus every year in April for the Diplôme de français professionnel - Affaires (B2 or C1).

Students enrolled in the Certificate in Business French at Western have passed these examinations with a high rate of success for the past several years.

These (non Western) diplomas provide an additional guarantee of qualification for potential employers and are recognized by businesses around the world. For more information about the Paris Chamber of Commerce examinations, please consult www.francais.ccip.fr.

The Certificate in Business French offered by the Department of French Studies at Western is separate from these exams and is granted upon successful completion of the required course work.
