CMS Virtual Math Camp@Western - Summer 2021

CMS-MAthCamp2021.png

In 2021, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, 29 grade nine students participated in a virtual math camp with Western Univeristy's Mathematics department. The camp ran from  July 27-29, 2021.

This year we will deliver the Math Camp virtually and we have organized the program  math-camp-swag.jpgfrom July 27-29. Over these three days, a series of talks will be delivered by experienced academics, and individual and team Math competitions will be held. Three contests are part of the competitions: enigmatic mornings, cryptographic challenge, and Indianapolis 900. A total of ten students will be awarded prizes for their combined scores from all camp contests. For more information and a schedule, please see the attached documents in the welcome packet.

Highlights of the event:

Math Talks

Every day, three talks—two before noon and one after noon—will be delivered by mathematicians, including mathematics professors, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students. Details can be found in the attached schedule. A wide range of topics will be covered, from financial math to geometry, from game theory to big data and cryptography.

Students with 9th grade mathematics knowledge will be able to follow the talks, and the only requirement is that they engage and participate in the activities suggested by the speakers.
