Extreme Weather, Resilient Societies: Climate Adaptation Across Communities

One-day research retreat hosted by the Rotman Institute of Philosophy and the Canadian Severe Storms Laboratory.

Who: Western University research community
When: Thursday, December 3rd
Time: 9:00am-3:00pm [approx.]
Where: WIRB 3000

The Rotman Institute of Philosophy and the Canadian Severe Storms Laboratory invite members of the Western University research community to participate in a one-day interdisciplinary research retreat on climate adaptation and resilient societies.

Extreme weather events—such as tornadoes, hailstorms, flash floods, and wildfires—create a complex social challenge to homes, communities, and public institutions. Creating a society that can adequately respond to extreme weather requires not only scientific and engineering solutions but also an understanding of how these challenges impact the individuals and communities who experience them.

The research retreat will bring together researchers from Western’s research community to examine the factors and conditions that enable communities to adapt to extreme weather. By bringing together researchers from across campus, we hope to identify opportunities for future interdisciplinary research projects and collaborations between researchers across faculties and disciplines.
