Values based assessment

What and how we assess matters both for what we show matters to our students and how we support student learning. This workshop will critically interrogate assessments from a values perspective, exploring where alignment with what we care about shows up in our assessments, and where refinement may result in more meaningful assessment. Scholarship on values based assessment, as well as practical tools for refinement will be shared with participants

By the end of this workshop participants should be able to:
-identify explicit and implicit values in their teaching practice
-interrogate their assessment approach based on their identified values
-develop and align assessment with their own values and the values of their disciplines

Audience
This session is open to any faculty, librarians, archivists, postdoctoral scholars, and staff at Western involved or interested in exploring teaching and learning.

Our commitment to access
The Centre for Teaching and Learning values the important perspectives that disability and neurodivergence brings to conversations around teaching and learning. We are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all participants. We approach this as a collective practice. As facilitators, we take specific steps to reduce barriers to access, including [sharing digitally accessible materials in advance, explaining complex concepts and terms, and inviting multiple forms of participation and engagement.] We also recognize that access is an ongoing process; we invite participants to contact us at ctl@uwo.ca if you have any concerns that your access needs might not be met in our session.
