Observation Nation: The Early History of the Meteorological Service of Canada
The Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) began in 1871 with the goal of better understanding the Canadian climate. Operating on a shoestring and facing immense geography, early meteorologists turned to Canadians for help, transforming the service into an extraordinary collaboration between scientists and citizens that helped shape a sense of nationhood. This presentation offers an overview of our research for a book on the service's early years and a case study of its Victoria, B.C. station.
