Día de los muertos celebration

Join Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics for their annual Day of the Dead celebration!

Enjoy live music, a colourful altar in place, pan de Muerto (day of the dead bread), and Spanish students speaking about the meaning and manifestations of the celebration.

This event serves to enhance cultural awareness, inclusivity, and community building on campus. This event provides an educational opportunity for students and faculty to learn about and appreciate traditions rooted in Mexican culture, while also recognizing that countries like Guatemala and Ecuador celebrate similar customs for honouring the dead.

By promoting cultural sensitivity, the event fosters a sense of unity through the recognition and celebration of the heritage of Mexican and Latinx students, demonstrating the university’s commitment to diversity. Additionally, the celebration incorporates interdisciplinary elements, offering a rich, multifaceted learning experience for the campus community.

The event will take place on Monday, November 2nd at 3:30pm in University College in the second-floor study area.
