Dr. Ruchika Gupta
Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine, Western University
Bio - Dr. Ruchika Gupta is an Assistant Professor in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and a Medical Microbiologist & Infection Prevention Physician at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). She is also the Course lead for Western's Master of Clinical Pathologists' Assistant Program. She completed her Microbiology Residency (FRCPC) and Transplant Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of Toronto. Dr. Gupta leads the Mycology section at LHSC and is an ESCMID Local Champion for Canada, with active national and international collaborations in antimicrobial resistance, surveillance, mycology and fungal infections. Her research focuses on advancing fungal diagnostics, diagnostic stewardship, antimicrobial resistance and AI-enabled microbiology. She supervises more than 15 trainees from undergraduate to postdoctoral levels, with both she and her trainees receiving competitive research support and recognition, including NSERC USRA, CIHR funding and Summer Research Training Awards.
The RGE Murray Seminar Series in named in honour of Dr. Robert Murray, Professor Emeritus, for his many years of service to the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Dr. Murray joined Western in 1945, and chaired the department from 1949 to 1974. Dr. Murray is a founder of the Canadian Society of Microbiologists, is the founding editor of the Canadian Journal of Microbiology, and was president of the American Society for Microbiology. In 1998 Dr. Murray was invested into the Order of Canada in acknowledgment of his many scientific accomplishments and contributions to the scientific community.
