Future Prof Workshop: Feedback Language

International and multilingual Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) and educators bring valuable linguistic, cultural, and educational perspectives to the practice of giving feedback on assessments. This interactive session explores sustainable, student-centered feedback practices that build on these strengths. Through real-world case studies and teaching scenarios, participants will examine how language choices shape student learning, engagement, and motivation.  

Drawing on the CAOS Feedback model (Constructive, Actionable, Observable, Specific), participants will learn how to structure feedback that is clear, constructive, and growth oriented. Through real-world scenarios, guided discussions, and short practice activities, ITAs will develop confidence in addressing both strengths and areas for improvement in student work across different formats (including written assignments, lab work, and in-person interactions. Together, we'll identify practical feedback strategies that are manageable to use across different teaching contexts while helping students understand expectations, act on feedback, and continue developing their skills. New or seasoned international and multilingual GTA's are welcome in this session. The goal is to help participants develop feedback approaches that are both effective and sustainable over time.
