Is there a complex concept in your discipline that you would like to teach using new or innovative methods? Alternatively, is there a concept you have been teaching and would like feedback on the effectiveness of your approach, including what is working well and what could be improved? Or do you just want more time to practice the BOPPPS Model? If your answer is yes to any, and all the questions, you are invited to join the Microteach Studio, a facilitated practice space for graduate and post-doctoral students who have completed a microteaching program within the past two academic years.
Inspired by an iterative design → practice → feedback → refine teaching model, the Microteach Studio provides an opportunity to experiment with new teaching approaches in a supportive and collegial environment. Working in interdisciplinary groups of 3-4 participating graduate students will design and deliver a short lesson (10 minutes), engage in structured peer feedback, and reflect on opportunities to clary their ideas and strengthen student learning and engagement.
The Microteach Studio is designed to foster confidence, creativity, and ongoing growth through reflective teaching practice. The studio consists of two in-person sessions, and time spent asynchronous prep for the two sessions (see visualization table below for more details). In the first session, participants conduct a 10- minute microteach and receive structured feedback from peers and the facilitator. Participants then refine their lesson or teaching approach and return for a second round of teaching and feedback.
Please note: because the objective of this studio is to give graduate educators additional space to work through how to teach a complex idea or concept in their discipline, participants can refine the same lesson that they present for the first microteaching session and deliver the refined version (feedback factored in) on session 2.

Learning Outcomes:
Participants are encouraged to use this space to get feedback on concepts that they might wish to work through in their own teaching context (discipline). Folks are also welcome to participate to continue to strengthen their teaching strategies.
Participants in these sessions will:
- Practice an iterative design → practice → feedback → refine teaching framework to lesson delivery.
- Implement the BOPPPS model (or another instructional framework) to design and deliver a 10-minute microteach lesson on a topic of their choice.
- Engage in receiving and providing constructive feedback to improve their teaching practice.
- Apply feedback to strengthen their lesson design and delivery to increase student engagement and understanding.
Registration Process:
Interested graduate students must submit a $20 refundable deposit to reserve their spot in the program. The deposit will be returned upon completion of the studio and participation in both sessions.
Please note that spaces in this program are limited to support meaningful participation and peer feedback. We will need a minimum of 4 participants to run a studio.
Prerequisites:
Participants must:
- Be a current graduate or post-doctoral scholar.
- Have completed a microteaching/ teaching development program (e.g. TATP, TCC, ATP) or an equivalent teaching program from another institution within the past two academic years.
- Be prepared to design and facilitate a short teaching segment for fellow participants.
- Commit to attending both studio sessions and actively participating in peer feedback and reflection activities.
