Prof. Howard Salis is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of California Riverside. His research in synthetic biology focuses on developing & integrating predictive models, design algorithms, and massively parallel experiments to enable the rational engineering of organisms (cell sensors, genetic circuits, metabolic pathways, genomes) at an unprecedented scale. Our models and algorithms are widely used by a community of over 20000 researchers with thousands of biotech applications. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UC San Francisco. He received the DARPA Young Faculty Award in 2010, the NSF Career Award in 2013, and founded De Novo DNA, a spin-off company that commercializes design algorithms for genetic systems.
