Sunrise Ceremony for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Begin the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in reflection and community at a Sunrise Ceremony led by Elder Mike Hopkins. 

Event Highlights: 

  • Sunrise Ceremony begins around 6:45 a.m. 
  • Please wear orange to show your support
  • Light refreshments served following the sunrise ceremony 
  • Sacred fire will remain lit until 2 p.m.
  • Visitors are welcome throughout the day to pay respects and offer prayers
  • Long skirts will be admired, but not required

This gathering holds space for Survivors and intergenerational Survivors, honours the children who never returned home, and recognizes the ongoing work of healing and Truth and Reconciliation. 

The Sacred Fire is open to everyone. This is a space for the Western and local community to come together in remembrance, reflection, and communal gathering.
