Community of Practice and Care: Accessibility in Teaching and Learning
The purpose of this Community of Practice and Care (CoPC) is to nurture a space to slow down, connect, and co-create supportive networks with peers. The theme for this CoPC is decolonizing approaches to teaching and learning, and participants will have the opportunity to explore emerging and pressing conversations about how to proactively engage decolonial approaches in courses and classrooms. Participants in this CoPC will also have the opportunity to earn up to two Future Prof credits towards the Western Certificate in University Teaching & Learning. The deadline for registration is Monday, September 14, 2026 by 9:00AM.
During lightly facilitated, biweekly online gatherings during the fall term, we will seek to do the following:
- Build networks of care
- Engage with a variety of definitions of decolonization, especially from Indigenous scholars, advocates, and activists
- Explore strategies towards decolonizing teaching in higher education
- Cultivate sustainable and collaborative teaching practices
- Identify and collate decolonization resources that support this work
Upon registration, you will receive a link to a Qualtrics survey to introduce yourself and identify possible meeting times. We will finalize the schedule and reach out once registration closes, based on scheduling that works for the greatest number of participants.
Current graduate students and postdoctoral scholars are welcome register on Western Connect. This CoPC will be offered online.
