In Conversation with Peter Howitt, Nobel Laureate in Economics
Western University invites you to a special fireside chat featuring Peter Howitt, MA'69 (Economics), past Western professor and recipient of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Economics, in conversation with a past Governor of the Bank of Canada, Stephen Poloz, MA'79, PhD'82, LLD'19.
Howitt received the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in October 2025 alongside Joel Mokyr and Philippe Aghion for their groundbreaking work explaining how innovation drives long-term economic growth. His influential theory of "creative destruction" explains how new ideas, technologies and industries replace outdated ones to drive economic progress and improve living standards.
