Future of Teaching & Learning

Town Hall - Western's Future of Teaching & Learning

Join the conversation about Western’s Future of Teaching and Learning: Strategic Action Areas. Across our campus, exceptional student learning experiences and innovative teaching practices are happening every day. To build on these strengths, Western is developing a comprehensive, campus-wide action plan that looks ahead to the future of education.

The Future of Teaching and Learning: Strategic Action Areas will serve as a bridge plan, drawing together priorities from current institutional initiatives – including Towards Western at 150. This work comes at a pivotal moment for reflection and action in higher education, with the goal of strengthening teaching and learning today while preparing Western for what lies ahead.

Earlier this month, students, staff, and faculty from across campus gathered to launch Action Plan Groups, each shaped directly by the key concerns and priorities our campus community identified through the Western-wide Teaching & Learning Survey. These groups, along with the Steering Committee, are developing recommendations in the following areas:

First-Year Academic Transition

Experiential Learning

Teaching Excellence

Assessment

Common Undergraduate Requirements: The Writing and Breadth Requirements

Lifelong Learning and Careers

Graduate Education

We now invite all Western students, staff, and faculty to contribute to this next phase of planning. Your insights are essential in shaping engaging, inclusive, and impactful educational experiences for our entire community.

Two upcoming town halls (one in person and one virtual) will offer opportunities to learn more about the Action Plan Group’s emerging recommendations, ask questions, and share your feedback.
