Are the Olympics Still Relevant?

As cities reconsider the social, economic and political value of hosting global sporting mega-events, the Olympic Games face increasing scrutiny.

Laura Misener, PhD, will examine the evolving relevance of the Olympics and Paralympics in a world grappling with equity, sustainability, legacy and growing global fragmentation.

Drawing on comparative research and recent host city trends, this virtual session will explore how mega-events reflect and shape societal values.

Laura Misener is a professor, director and the Frank Hayden Endowed Research Chair in Sport and Social Impact and an executive council member of the Western International Centre for Olympic Studies.
